Module Two - Students

Please complete the following tasks as they apply to the world, not individual countries.  Think globally.  Also, these issues apply to all countries in the world,  

Task One – Group work

Each group will work on ONE issue and complete Two posters(one on the issue, another on the solution of the problems).

1. Inventions.  As a group list some greatest inventions  on their poster paper and say how they affected to people.  You can design the poster however you like and the way of their solution.

2.Culture Heritage :  As a group, please complete the statement ” It’s very important to preserve cultural heritage            for future generation… You can design the poster however you like and the way of their solution.

3. Education  :   As a group, please write down who should benefit from education and how on your poster paper.  You can design the poster however you like. 

4.The Environment:  As a group, please write down some things that negatively affect the environment. What should people do to improve the situation? What global projects should be done? You can design the poster however you like.

Task Two – Group work

Each group will work on ONE issue and prepare ONE presentation. 

1.      Inventions discussion questions:
A. Should we  divide inventions on useful and useless?
B. What are the most important inventions to your mind?
C. What are the most dangerous inventions for the mankind and why?
2.      Culture heritage discussion  questions:
A.     Should we mostly focus on preserving culture heritage in our own country?  Why or why not?
B.     How can culture heritage in other countries affect us?
C.    Is it important to help poor countries to preserve their culture heritage?  Why or why not?

3.      The Environment discussion questions:

A.     Should we only worry about the environment in our own country?  Why or why not?
B.     How might the abuse of the environment in other countries affect us?
C.    Describe some environmental concerns that countries do NOT share (i.e., country-specific like preserving the Rain Forest in Brazil).  Describe some environmental concerns that countries DO share (i.e., world concerns). 

4.      Education discussion questions:
D.    Should we mostly focus on education in our own country?  Why or why not?
E.     How can educational systems in other countries affect us?
F.     Is it important to help poor countries improve their educational systems?  Why or why not?

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is an agency within the United Nations that is responsible for promoting peace, social justice, human rights and international security through international cooperation on educational, science and cultural programs. It is based in Paris, France and has over 50 field offices located around the world.
Today, UNESCO has five major themes to its programs which include 1) education, 2) natural sciences, 3) social and human sciences, 4) culture, and 5) communication and information. UNESCO is also actively working to achieve the United Nations 'Millennium Development Goals but it is focused on achieving the goals of significantly reducing extreme poverty in developing countries by 2015, developing a program for universal primary education in all countries by 2015, eliminating gender inequalities in primary and secondary education, promoting sustainable development and reducing the loss of environmental resources.
UNESCO's World Heritage mission is to:
·                   encourage countries to sign the World Heritage Convention and to ensure the protection of their natural and cultural heritage;
·                   encourage States Parties to the Convention to nominate sites within their national territory for inclusion on the World Heritage List;
·                   encourage States Parties to establish management plans and set up reporting systems on the state of conservation of their World Heritage sites;
·                   help States Parties safeguard World Heritage properties by providing technical assistance and professional training;
·                   provide emergency assistance for World Heritage sites in immediate danger;
·                   support States Parties' public awareness-building activities for World Heritage conservation;
·                   encourage participation of the local population in the preservation of their cultural and natural heritage;
·                   encourage international cooperation in the conservation of our world's cultural and natural heritage.
